The Seasoned Clinician’s Notebook:
How Psychoanalytic Concepts Inform the Practice of Psychotherapy
"Looking ahead: How psychoanalytic ideas can be used to inform clinical practice today and among future generations of effective therapists”
Beverly Simmons, PhD
Presenter
In this presentation, Dr. Beverly Simmons will discuss how an analytic understanding can inform clinical practice in a wide variety of treatment environments and therapeutic modalities. She will offer a brief history of major areas of psychoanalytic thought, examine how theoretical concepts have shifted over time, discuss what has remained, and respond to critiques of psychoanalytic ideas in contemporary practice. Dr. Simmons will also discuss how an analytic orientation supports an ongoing growth mindset that impacts the therapist’s clinical choices, self-care practices, and long-term stability in an ever-changing world.

This is the fourth in a series that features clinicians from a range of disciplines who will share how they use concepts from psychoanalysis to enrich their clinical work, from cultivating creativity to working with addictions. All are welcome, at no cost, to learn from these experienced psychotherapists. CEUs will not be offered for these events, but Letters of Attendance will be sent.
